GOV. UDOM EMMANUEL CALLS FOR RESPECT TO THE RULE OF LAW

AKWA IBOM State governor Udom Emmanuel has urged lawyers in the country to increase their commitment towards ensuring that the rule of law is respected and followed. Emmanuel, who made the call at the opening ceremony of the National Executive Council meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association in Uyo yesterday, said that their commitment and sincerity towards the maintenance
of rule of law would help to sustain democracy in the country.

The governor called on the NBA to increase supervision of the activities of their members since the actions of the undisciplined ones had continued to undermine the reputation of the association. He tasked them on the need to continually advocate for peace in the Niger Delta as millions of naira was being spent by states in the region on logistics for steady production of oil in the area.
Emmanuel, who also solicited their support for international oil companies to relocate to their baseb of operations, also called on the federal government to help the
state to develop the Ibaka deep seaport since it has a natural depth. Earlier in an address, NBA national president, Abubakar Mahmood commended the state government for promoting a smooth operation of the criminal justice administration and making dispensation of general justice easy.
In another development, Governor Emmanuel yesterday swore in 2,200 corps members posted to serve in the state under the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1, even as he pledged to improve on facilities
at the Akwa Ibom orientation camp to aid corps members posted to the state for national service.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Monday Uko, said that the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, was designed to bring youths from diverse
backgrounds to forge common ties among them. He assured corps members of government and Akwa Ibom people’s support to enable them add value to their host communities.
He charged the corps members to embrace and have special interest in the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development activities that would be introduced to them, as it would add value to
their lives.
“It is real that the scourge of unemployment in our country today is high. I will enjoin you to take special interest in the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development activities to which you will be introduced in the course of this orientation programme. “The government and people of Akwa Ibom State are disposed to supporting corps members with initiatives that would add value to their host communities,” Emmanuel said.
He charged corps members to exhibit high level of discipline and take their training very seriously during the three weeks orientation course. Earlier, the state coordinator of NYSC, Oluwale Amusan said that a total of 2, 220 corps members, comprising 1170 males and 1050 females, were fully registered on November 23.
